It was the first time these two teams met this season so it promised to be a tumultuous affair.
Both teams got off to an edgy start and as a result play was very scrappy.
However on 15mins Clodagh Dunworth broke the deadlock with a goal from just outside the box.
The ball was played over the top from Catherine Cronin and it looked destined for a goal
kick but the effortless Fiona Maloney worked hard to keep it in play and proceeded to
pull it back for Dunworth to slot home.
Annacotty were now going up the gears and Danielle Sheehy had the opportunity to make
it two but the Mungret goalkeeper Lorna Barry made a heroic save to keep it at one nil.
Mungret were now working tirelessly throughout the field to pin Annacotty back and
won a deserved free kick from 25 yards out. From the resulting free kick Samantha Mc Carthy
tested the Annacotty keeper and hit the crossbar when the keeper tipped it over.
Nevertheless Annacotty still kept the pressure on and got the goal they deserved
when Catherine Cronin played a defence splitting ball on the left which Fiona Maloney
buried in the top corner giving the Mungret keeper no chance.
In the second half the game flowed more with Annacotty having the majority of possession
but failing to capitalise on it. For Mungret Sinead Leahy was battling hard in centre midfield
and was rewarded a couple of free kicks for her tenacity.
However Annacotty were too strong and the unforgiving Fiona Maloney put the game to
bed on 70mins with a thunderous shot from outside the box.
The combination of Sheehy and Maloney up front for Annacotty caused unrelenting problems
for Mungret all day who were unable to cope with the speed of the strikers.
With continued support play from the wings in the form of Catherine Cronin and Laura Hughes
Annacotty were unlucky not to add a few more to the tally.
Best on the day for Mungret was Sinead Leahy and Ciara Barrett.
