Aisling Annacotty(0) Shannon Hibs A(1)

Division 1 League - Tuesday 1st June 2010

Shannon Hibs recorded their first victory over league leaders Aisling Annacotty in a very entertaining game played in excellent conditions on Tuesday evening in Annacotty. The game started with Aisling on the front foot from the off and it took a little while for Shannon Hibs to settle. Aisling had some half chances early on but found Aine McCormaic to be in great form in the Shannon Hibs goal. Hibs gradually settled into the game and started to move the ball around more confidently with Ashling Hughes and Sinead Toomey controlling things in the middle for them. Aisling always remained a constant threat on the counter attack and kept the Shannon Hibs backline on their toes for much of the half. Their best chance came when a long ball was not dealt with by the Shannon Hibs backline and resulted in a one on one from which Aine McCormaic produced a wonderful save. At the other end Mimi Flynn was unlucky not to give Hibs the lead following a through ball from Claire Weherley. The half ended 0-0.

The second half was a much more competitive affair in which both teams increased the pace of the game in search for the opening goal. Both defences stood firm and chances were limited. However, Hibs kept pushing and following a great ball from Ashling Hughes, Michelle Clancy squared to Gill Purcell who fired home from 6 yards to give the visitors a well earned lead.

Shannon Hibs held out for the remainder of the game to take all 3 points.
