Listowel opened their league campaign with a merited 1-0 win over a gallant Murroe team on Tuesday night.
The 1st half was a scrappy affair with neither side settling into a rhythm and the wind playing its part in disrupting the
flow of the game. The best chance of the half came after 20 minutes when Claire Coughlan went on a mazy run down the left flank
before cutting into the penalty box. Her low cross was met by the incoming Fiona Toomey , whose shot was cleared off the
line by a Listowel defender with the keeper beaten.
The 2nd half saw an improvement in the game and Listowel put on a lot of pressure.
Finally with a draw looking the most likely result Meghan Galvin latched on to a loose Murroe clearance and rifled
home the winner with 5 minutes left.
Best for Murroe on the night were Sinead Hickey Pauline Ryan and Catriona Laffan. Helena Ryan in goals also performed well.
