Shannon Hibs recorded their 3rd win of the season with a hard fought victory over Murroe on Tuesday evening
played in glorious conditions. Murroe started the much brighter of the teams and were immediately on the attack
following some good work from Claire Coughlan who was a threat all evening. Murroe forced a corner after
ten minutes and following a mix-up in the Hibs defence, Susan O Brien poked the ball home from close range.
This seemed to spark Shannon Hibs into life and they started to threaten the Murroe goal more frequently and
were unlucky not to equalise when a Kiara Hannon free-kick was just wide.
Murroe scored their second goal following a through ball from Joan Ryan which Ursula McInerney in the
Hibs goal raced out to collect but was beaten to it by Susan O Brien who scored to put her side 2-0 ahead on
the half hour. Shannon Hibs kept pressing to get themselves back into the game and following some good
work from Leanne Boyle, who was a constant threat on the wing, she squared to Claire Weherley who moved
the ball to Kiara Hannon, she beat 2 Murroe defenders before placing the ball past the Murroe keeper to get
Hibs back into it.
The game was marred by a bad injury to one of the Murroe players who fell awkwardly on her
ankle and suffered a nasty injury. The game was delayed for several minutes following treatment.
Murroe struggled to compose themselves following the delay and Hibs drew level before half-time
following a super strike from Michelle Clancy from 20 yards, giving the Murroe keeper no chance.
The sides went into the break 2-2.
The second half started with Hibs pushing for the lead and looked the more likely to score.
Following some pressure on the Murroe defence a pass from Kiara Hannon sent
Claire Weherley through on goal and she slotted home to put Hibs up 3-2.
The game was stopped for a further 20 minutes following the arrival of an ambulance for the injured
Murroe player and this upset the tempo of the second half.
Murroe dominated the last 15 minutes trying to find the equaliser and went very close in
the last few minutes but Ursula McInerney saved with her feet from close range.
Hibs won the tie 3-2 to go into 3rd place in the league.
