Shannon Hibs(1) Listowel(2)

Division 1 League - Tuesday 20th July 2010

Listowel were pushed all the way by Shannon Hibs in a Division 1 tie played in wet conditions in Shannon on Tuesday 20th July. Hibs coming off a loss against Mungret were keen to get back on track and started much brighter, passing the ball around very well on a slick surface. Listowel were always a threat on the counter attack and their direct style kept the Hibs back four on their toes throughout the game. The best chance of the half fell to Gill Purcell who broke through and was unlucky to see her strike go just wide. The half ended 0-0 which was a fair reflection. Shannon Hibs kept attacking from the start of the second half and took a deserved lead through Michelle Clancy who following a through ball from Sinead Toomey shot past the Listowel keeper. This seemed to spur Listowel into life and they began to apply on lot of pressure on the Hibs defence. Following some neat passing, the hibs defence was opened up for the first time in the game and Listowel scored the equaliser. Both teams went looking for the winner with chances at either end, however it was late in the game when a cross from the Listowel winger was tucked away to give them the advantage and all 3 points. Hibs will be delighted with the level of their performance against a strong Listowel team who are now in contention to win the league title.
