Analog Report

A new look Analog team took to the field this evening against new rivals Kilmallock in Mungret College. Analog got off to a great start with a cross from April Cahalane to Haley MacKessey who headed the ball just shy of the goal post within the first 2 minutes of the game. However Kilmallock weren’t going to take this lying down and brought the ball up the pitch to score in the bottom left corner of the goals. The Analog defense was under pressure again by Kilmallock and a near miss grazed the Analog goal post. 10 minutes into the game saw Lisa O’Keefe picking up an injury and being replaced by Leanne O’Dowd. Kilmallock kept the pressure up and scored again in the 21st minute of the game and the 25th minute in an onslaught of goals. Analog managed to rally their forces and a free kick from a hand ball taken by Emily Cleary tested the Kilmallock goalie that just sent it out for a corner. It ended at half time 3-0 to the visitors.

Half time saw a couple of changes on both teams; Katie Casey, Niamh O’Meara, Nicola Ennis and Linda Garvey were introduced into Analog’s mix replacing the injured Emma Heneghan and Davida O’Brien as well as substitutions for Claire O’Keefe and Haley MacKessey.

The second half saw Kilmallock starting out strong and capitalizing with a goal in the 40th minute of the match. Analog were rallying hard and a questionable goal was given by the referee which had the Analog defense standing in astonishment. A shot went out and came back in to play off the back bar which was then tapped in to back of the net by a Kilmallock striker. Despite the protests of the Analog defense it fell on the deaf ears of the referee. Analog fought back hard with chances from Maria Kelly, Emily Cleary and Miriam Liston and despite Analog finding their form late into the second half they were unlucky not to have scored.

Full time whistle in Mungret College, Analog 0 Kilmallock 5.

Kilmallock Report

This was Kilmallock's first ladies soccer game of the season and they started brightly with Sandra Gammell finding the net after 5 minutes play following good approach work from Jenny Clery and Catherine Coleman. This is a young Kilmallock team with alot of the girls having progressed from underage football over the last year or two and their enthusiasm was rewarded again on 20 minutes when Claudia Hudner went on a mesmerising run up the right flank before crossing for Sandra Gammel to rifle home her second of the game. Just before half time the hoops grabbed a third when Sinead O'Riordan struck a powerful volley to the roof of the net.

Analog came out strongly in the second period and Aedin Hayes and Aisling Ryan at the heart of the Kilmallock defence had to pull off some last ditch tackles to prevent the opposing forwards from scoring. Kilmallock's pre season fitness training was beginning to pay dividends as the hour approached as they came on strongly in the last quarter with further goals arriving courtesy of the impressive Marie Curtin and Sinead O'Riordans second.
