Bilboa (1) Herbertstown(0)   Division 2 League - Thursday 6th May 2010   On Thursday night, Bilboa Ladies took on Herbertstown in a league game played in Bilboa, in perfect conditions these two teams played out a really tight competitive game that Bilboa just shaded on a one nil score line. In a really tight first half where both teams were testing each other out, Bilboa almost took the lead when an Ann Marie Leahy free kick just cleared the crossbar, at the other end what seemed an audacious attempt from distance by Herbertstown hit the crossbar and nearly caught Bilboa cold, straight from the kick out Bilboa went up the other end and after some neat passing on the edge of the box the ball fell for Niamh Berkery who’s effort smacked off the crossbar and was cleared to safety. Just before half time Herbertstown caught Bilboa on a counter attack, but for an excellent diving save by Collette O’ Toole in goals kept it scoreless at the break. The second half started exactly the same as the first with little between the teams Bilboa started to slowly get on top with efforts from both Sheila Sheehy and Niamh Berkery going close, at this point the Herbertstown defence was stretched to its limits and inevitably Bilboa got the break through, a long free kick by Ann Marie Leahy sailed over the Herbertstown defence with Sheila McAteer reacting quickest to expertly dispatch the ball a past the helpless goalkeeper. After this both teams started to tire with the majority of the game played in the middle third, Herbertstown had one last chance to save the game with a free kick 20 yards from goal but Collette O’ Toole was positioned perfectly to ensure victory. A really good entertaining game with lots of effort and skill from both sets of players, well done to all.
