Kilmallock(2) Ballylanders(1)

Division 2 League - Tuesday, 18th May 2010

This was a cracking game of soccer between two evenly matched teams.

Kilmallock had the majority of early possession but found it difficult to pierce the visitors rearguard with their keeper making a number of timely interventions. On twenty minutes a lapse in concentration in the hoops defence was punished when the impressive Katie Mee pounced to fire home the opening goal. In front of the biggest home attendance of the season this merely served to fire the home team up and they found a deserved equaliser on the stroke of half time when Claudia Hudner reacted quickest in the box to send a powerful left footed shot into the roof of the net.

The second half was a continuation of the first with the hoops dominating midfield but remaining vulnerable to swift counter attacks from the speedy Bally frontline. With 10 minutes remaining Kilmallock got the vital third goal of the game when Vicky McMahon set Mary Purcell free in the box and she clamly slotted home past the visiting keeper. Bally launched all out attack in an effort to get the equaliser and the hoops defence had to be on their toes in the third minute of stoppage time to clear a Bally corner to safety. Seconds later the referee, who had an excellent game throughout, signalled the end of a thoroughly entertaining game of soccer.

Best on the night for the hoops were Claudia Hudner, Aedin Hayes, Anna O'Dea and Stella Stapleton while Katie Mee and Lorna McCarthy were to the fore for the visitors.
