This local derby was a hard fought encounter with both teams fighting for every ball from first minute to last.
The hoops were on top early on and took the lead after 5 minutes following a neat interchange of passes between
Catherine Coleman and Marie Curtin which ended with Claudia Hudner rifling a powerful
shot to the net. Despite dominating for long periods Kilmallock failed to add to their first half
tally with shots either crashing back off the crossbar or flying narrowly wide.
On the stroke of half time they were made to pay when the hosts equalised following a quick counter attack.
The second period was very even for long periods but the hoops fitness appeared to tell
in the end as they came on strong in the last quarter and got the decisive goal when Caitriona Kelly
showed quick reflexes to fire a low shot to the net following good work from Audrey Bradford.
The hoops showed good fighting spirit to hold out for all three points with Vicky McMahon,
Anna O'Dea and Eileen Connery playing very well on the night.
