Knocklong (0) Bilboa (2)

Division 2 League - Knocklong F.C. on Tuesday, 27th April 2010 at 7.00 p.m.
(Ann Marie Leahy & Sheila McAteer)

Bilboa Ladies made the trip to Knocklong on Tuesday, 27th April 2010 to kick-start their new season, where they overcame the home side on a 2 nil score line. The game started badly for Bilboa with Aoife Butler suffering a serious knee injury being replaced by Marie Sheehy in the 5th minute and Megan Byrnes having to limp off, Bilboa were forced to play the final 80 minutes with just 10 players.

The game was a close tight affair with not much goal mouth action.

Knocklong went close in the 15th minute when a free kick taken out on the left was brilliant touched onto the crossbar by Collette O’ Toole in goals. The remainder of the first half was evenly contested by both teams.

Bilboa got the ideal start to the second half when Ann Marie Leahy swung in a corner and it deceived everyone and found its way to the net. Knocklong battled really hard to get back into the game but for some fine goalkeeping and stern defending held them at bay. Bilboa kept the pressure on with some great moves forward by the midfield and forwarders. The result was made secure in the 83 minute when a great ball over the top by Sheila Sheehy was read by Sheila McAteer who finished to the net despite some serious pressure from the Knocklong defence.

All in all a great performance by an under strength Bilboa team, that boads well for the season.
