Aisling(3) Murroe(1)

Open Cup - Tuesday 29th June 2010

Annacotty started the game bright causing chaos for the Murroe defenders. Laura Hughes shot hit the post and Sarah Stack was unlucky not to be on the end of it. In the 15th minute aisling midfielder, Nicole Cronin carved her way through the Murroe defence showing great skill and composure only to see her shot saved by the oppositions keeper, who was definitely on top form. Some great play between Clodagh Dunworth and Danielle Sheehy looked promising but unfortunately Danielle’s shot went high and wide.

For most of the first half Annacotty were the team on top and had a number of clear shots however were unable to capitalise on their possession and went into half time at 0-0. Annacotty game out fighting in the second half and Nicole Cronin eventually opened the scoring with a great header into the top corner of the net. This was quickly followed by a second with Nicole Cronin’s goal giving Annacotty what looked like a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Murroe however had other ideas and started to fight back. Murroe forward Susan used her strength on a number of occasions and was unlucky not to put at least one of her efforts in the back on the net. Aisling regained composure with Nicole Cronin, player of the game, getting her hat trick. Murroe did get a goal back late in the second half unfortunately it was too little to late and Aisling Annacotty were convincing 3-1 winners of this cup tie.
