Shannon Hibs travelled to Kilmallock for a tricky cup game against the Division 2 league leaders.
The game was played in excellent conditions in Kilmallock in front of a big crowd. Shannon
Hibs started the better of the 2 sides and were put in front following a great cross from
Claire Weherley which was headed into the roof of the net by Gill Purcell.
Shannon Hibs went into the interval 1-0 but started the second half in similar fashion and following
some good work by Leanne Boyle, she squared to Gill Purcell who struck a low shot
into the Kilmallock net to put Shannon Hibs 2-0. Kilmallock to their credit started to get into the
game more and following a clearance from the back, the hibs defence got in a mix-up and
resulted in an own goal. From the centre, Kiara Hannon raced through, played a neat one-two
with Gill Purcell before firing home to regain a 2 goal advantage for her side.
This seemed to knock Kilmallock and Shannon Hibs pushed on and got their 4th goal from a superbly taken
free from outside the box by Michelle Clancy. Kilmallock got their second through Marie Curtin shortly afterwards who lobbed
Ursula McInerney in the Hibs goal. The final goal came with the last kick of the game when
Kiara Hannon got her second from the penalty sport after Barbara Nzavara was taken down in the Kilmallock box.
