Aileen Gilroy hit an incredible five goals in Connacht's concluding Women's FAI Umbro Under-18 Gaynor Cup game on Saturday to claim the national title for the Westerners. The goals from the striker, part of the Republic of Ireland squad that reached the quarter-final of the Women's Under-17 World Cup last year, in the 7-0 victory over Ulster were enough to dislodge Dublin at the summit of the six-team event played over three days at Limerick University. Deadlocked on nine points each heading into the final set of fixtures, leaders Dublin beat South Munster 1-0 but Connacht leapfrogged them for top spot courtesy of their emphatic win. In the Under-16 section, South Munster defeated Leinster South 3-0 in Saturday's final. Claire Shine was the match-winner by supplying all three goals for the victors. The quality of football across the tournament was of a high standard and the coaches of the Republic of Ireland international squads present over the three days spotted plenty of talent to help their selection process over the coming months.
