Limerick Ladies representative side, Northside United took the 7th Carrickfergus Women`s International Football Festival by storm last week getting to the Festival Plate Final with an excellent display of open attacking football impressing their Northern counterparts and International visiting teams.

In their opening match, they were narrowly beaten by the Northern Ireland Development Squad 1-0, in a close competitive match.
The Northern Ireland Squad will be playing in a UEFA European Championship Qualifying Tournament in Bulgaria next month. This defeat meant the Limerick team entered the Carrickfergus Festival Plate competition as Northern Ireland had already beaten the other team in their group, Carrick Rangers Post Office Ladies.

In their remaining group match against Carrickfergus, Northside recorded their first victory 1-0, Natalie Heffernan scoring.

In their 3rd match and semi-final of the Festival Plate competition, they put in an exhilarating display of high tempo attacking football beating Larne Ladies 3-0.
Goals from Alma Conroy, Vickie Reynolds and Laura Hughes, ensured passage to the final.

Their Plate Final opponents Crusaders Newtownabbey Strikers held impressive credentials and were runners-up in the Northern Ireland Premier League last season and were outright winner`s of the Carrickfergus Festival Cup last year. They have also represented Northern Ireland in the UEFA Club Championship on 3 occasions in recent years. The Limerick girls went into an early lead through Alma Conroy but were undone by a penalty and unavoidable OG late into the second half.

Delighted team manager Pat Halpin said : " The team was put together with the support of the Northside Regeneration Agency and Limerick City Council. The girls were outstanding and a credit to Limerick and Limerick Ladies football. They gave 110% commitment against top class opposition "

In the Carrickfergus Cup Final, English team Keynsham Ladies overcame Irish Universities 2-1. The Limerick Ladies League had 2 representatives on the Universities team, Lorna O Connell and Lynsey McKee.
