Sallypark (1) Aisling Annacotty B (8)
Aisling Annacotty`s Intermediate team travelled to Nenagh to take on Sallypark. They hoped to quickly eliminate memory of their recent National Cup exit after extra-time penalties to Cup favourites, Kilmacrennan of Donegal. Aisling last won this Munster trophy in 2007 before moving up to Senior ranks and hope this year to defend the trophy with their young enthusiastic developing squad.

Aisling quickly settled with Vickie Reynolds scoring after 5 minutes. This was followed by a well worked goal by Catherine Cronin after terrific approach play involving Clodagh Dunworth and Vickie Reynolds. Fiona Hayes drove home a powerful 25 yard shot before the dynamic Fiona Moloney went on a free scoring consecutive 4 goal mission.

This was an outstanding demonstration of emphatic goal scoring ability from the new arrival. For Sallypark, Niamh Hogan got just reward for her tireless energy with a deserved goal 10 minutes from time. However Linda Treacy finished the scoring in spectacular fashion with an unstoppable 30 yard cross-field volley.

Best for Sallypark were Joanne O`Brien, Noreen Treacy and Niamh Hogan.
For Aisling, Nicole Cronin and Aoife Mooney were instrumental in creating the goal scoring opportunities for success.

Aisling Annacotty A (4) Lifford (2)
Current Munster Cup holders Aisling Annacotty overcame near-rivals Lifford in a pulsating end to end cup derby to progress to the next round of the competition.
Lifford were denied an early break-through goal when keeper Deirdre Cremin dived bravely at the feet of ace Lifford goal scorer Irene Hehir. However Lifford were not to be denied and Edel Malone converted with deadly accuracy a free kick from just outside the box. Aisling quickly restored parity when Fiona Moloney crossed a low ball into the penalty area for Clodagh Dunworth to slot home the equaliser.

Early in the second half, Aisling went into a deserved lead when after a succession of dangerous corners, Fiona Moloney headed home through a crowded penalty box. However the lead was short-lived when Naomi Carroll slotted home from another set-piece corner with a tremendous diving header. Aisling were determined not to face another "dreaded" penalty shoot-out and continued to make chances with Clodagh Dunworth and Nicole Cronin industrious in mid-field. Lifford keeper Terese Hartley made a succession of courageous point blank saves.
The decisive breakthrough goals came late on from Fiona Moloney with 2 superb shots completing her hat-trick against one of the top defences in the country.

With Lifford defeated, Aisling can now progress with confidence and hopefully retain the trophy won last year in their first season playing at senior level.

Mungret(1) Abbeyfeale(4)
Mungret went into this Munster Intermediate Cup Quarter Final game as favourites having already defeated Abbeyfeale in the WFAI National Intermediate Cup earlier in the season.

However before the game started their hopes were severely dented with illness hitting three first choice players and another having their Debs on the night. The game commenced with Mungret forcing three corners in quick succession but could not breakdown the Abbeyfeale defence. The first chance of the game came in the 4th minute when Mungret won a free wide on the left which Jenni Lyttle whipped in for Sinéad Cusack to head just wide. Shortly after this Abbeyfeale settled down and came more into the game and were rewarded after 15 minutes when they broke quickly down the right following a Mungret attack catching the Mungret defence stretched with Anna McMahon scoring from the edge of the box.
Mungret then lost their keeper Melissa Power through illness with Breda Hogan having to take over in goal. Breda was replaced in midfield by Lisa Daly making one of her just too rare outings since having to move out of Limerick for employment. In the twenty first minute Abbeyfeale won a free kick in a dangerous position on the edge of the box but unfortunately Melissa O’Kelly blasted wide. Mungret were struggling to get back into the game at this time and Abbeyfeale came close again when they attacked down the left wing and the resulting shot by Emma Scannell was well saved by the deputy Mungret keeper.

Mungret then came back into the game and a long ball out of defence found Ellen Butler who cut in from the left but unfortunately shot tamely at the Abbeyfeal keeper. Mungret then won a free just outside the box which Ciara Nolan stuck on target but was well saved by Maura Lyons in the Abbeyfeale goal.
Abbeyfeale then struck a killer blow with five minutes to go to half time Anna McMahon’s off target shot was knocked in at the back post by Noelle Brown making it 2-0 to Abbeyfeale. Mungret nearly reduced the deficit just on half time when Ciara Nolan broke down the right and put in a perfect cross for the inrushing Sarah Koyce & Ellen Butler but unfortunately they could not get the final touch on the ball.

At half time score 0 – 2 to Abbeyfeale.

Mungret again started the second half brightly and after three minutes Shona Ryan played a lovely ball to Ellen Butler who unfortunately pulled her shot wide. Immediately after this, Mungret got their reward when a penalty was awarded for a hand ball just inside the box. Ellen Butler stepped up and placed the ball confidently in the back of the net to make the score 2-1 to Abbeyfeale. Mungret could have equalised in the 13th minute when a free wide on the left. The cross found Ciara Nolan unmarked at the far post but her shot sailed over the bar.
Mungret were made to pay for this in the 75th min. when Abbeyfeale were awarded a questionable penalty when Anna McMahon went down easily just inside the box.
Caitriona Davis converted from the spot to make it 3-1.

The game was essentially over a minute later when a long clearance caught the Mungret defence napping leaving Anna McMahon unmarked to round the keeper to make the score 4-1 to Abbeyfeal. Mungret never gave up and could have reduced the goal difference when Ellen whipped in free kick for Neisha Ahern who couldn’t direct her header into the back of the net. A few minutes later Mungret’s Jenni Lyttle hit a super free kick from about 30 yds but it was well saved by the Abbeyfeale keeper Maura Lyons. Overall on the night Abbeyfeale were just about deserving winners with the main difference being that they took their chances when they fell to them.

Abbeyfeale now move on to the semi-final full of confidence.
