Aisling Annacotty(6) Nenagh(1)

Munster Intermediate Cup

Aisling continued their march towards the Cup final with a comprehensive victory over Nenagh. In a very keenly contested game both sides served up a feast of open attacking football.
Were it not for the Aisling keeper Linda Treacy, Nenagh would not have been flattered if they had scored 4 or 5. Aisling`s young squad overcame the soft ground conditions with a display of fast energetic wing play. The opening 2 goals came from quick counter attacks and excellent through passes from midfield to Fiona Moloney and Natalie Heffernan respectively. The 3rd goal came after an excellently floated free kick from Laura Hughes creating all types of difficulty for the Nenagh defence who were unable to avoid an OG. The foruth goal before half time, came from a brilliant solo run from Clodagh Dunworth driving into the penalty box and shooting low past the helpless keeper.

Nenagh regrouped at half time and despite being 4 goals down played intensively to reduce the deficit with an unlucky Aisling defender putting through an unavoidable own goa early in the second half. Over the next twenty minutes Nenagh laid siege to the Aisling goalmouth with continuing corner after corner. Nenagh`s Aine Murphy, Trish O Brien and Lisa Maher were outstanding. The Aisling keeper Linda Treacy heroically lifted the siege with 3-4 last ditch saves to deny the increasingly confident Nenagh attack.

For Aisling, Fiona Hayes and Nicole Cronin were outstanding. With 10 minutes to go, Aisling scored 2 more to seal victory with Fiona Moloney and Clodagh Dunworth each adding a second to their first half goals.
