Munster Senior Cup Semi Final

Limerick Desmond League(1)    Aisling(2)

Aisling Annacotty got sweet revenge for their early season exit to Desmond League from the FAI National Cup with a well deserved victory on this occasion in a pulsating encounter, played in the excellent flood-lit facility at Clonreask, Askeaton.

Both sides played open attractive football with long periods of high tempo football. Despite their first half superiority Aisling had only one goal to show for their endeavours when Fiona Moloney volleyed from close range.

Desmond League began to dominate the exchanges in the second half and they were rewarded in the 80th minute when Caitrin De Bhal equalised after a goalmouth scramble. Outstanding for Aisling in normal time were Jessie O Donnell Sarah Crotty and Danielle Sheehy. For Desmond, Dympna O Brien was energetic throughout the pitch along with Caitriona Davis and Joan O Gorman.

In extra time Aisling regained their dominance and Fiona Moloney scored the vital winner with an exqiusite lob from 20 yards over the excellent Desmond keeper, Laura Mooney. In the final minute Aisling keeper, Deirdre Cremin pulled off a courageous match winning block from a very threatening Caitriona Davis free kick. Aisling are now through to their 4th Cup final ( local and provincial ) for this season.
