Murroe 4 Watergrasshill 3
17th May 2009

In a thrilling encounter on Sunday afternoon Murroe Ladies advanced to the next round by virtue of a hard fought victory over a talented Cork outfit.
Murroe started slowly and went 1 down after 3 minutes when on form striker Marion Lynch hit a 20 yarder to the roof of the net. Worse was to follow for the locals when after a period of sustained Murroe pressure Watergrasshill broke quickly and Emma Leahy was on hand to hit the net after the ball had rebounded from the crossbar.
Despite creating numerous goalscoring opportunities, poor finishing, the upright and good goalkeeping from Eileen Sheehan kept the game at 2-0 until half time.

The introduction of Claire Coughlan for Murroe had immediate effect. Her strong running and crosses from the left had Watergrasshill in trouble. The breakthrough goal came in the 3rd minute of the 2nd half when Sarah Berkery played a defense splitting pass to Susan O Neill who calmly slotted home. 8 minutes later the sides were level when Aine Cummings headed home a Susan O Brien corner.
At last Murroe were playing with confidence and Claire Coughlan capped a fine performance with a great strike from the left side of the penalty box giving the keeper no chance. Niamh Richardson then struck a thunderous shot from the right that flew into the net. At 4-2 the game looked safe but Watergrasshill never gave up and with 7 minutes left struck through the impressive Marion Lynch netting her 2nd of the afternoon with a strike from the edge of the box.
Murroe however held on for the win which sees us travel to play Newtown of Shannon in the next phase.

Well done to a very sporting Watergrasshill and their coach Brendan Coakley and also a mention for Micheal Weldon who refereed the game expertly on a day when not a yellow card had to be produced to either team.
