Heartbreak for Aisling in National Cup Quarter Final

Kilmacrennan Celtic, Donegal (0) - (0) Aisling Annacotty
(4 - 3, AET and Penalties )

Aisling Annacotty bowed out of the WFAI National Intermediate Cup in the cruelest of circumstances following the "dreaded" penalty shoot-out. Many of the Aisling team had contributed to Northside United`s success in Carrickfergus and it was their 5th competitive game in 6 days.

Early chance fell to Aisling`s Catherine Cronin whose top corner shot was brilliantly saved by keeper Roisin McCafferty. The Donegal keeper had won an All Ireland Minor gaelic football medal the previous day against Clare. Both teams battled with great enthusiasm in what was a very even close-fought contest throughout.
For Kilmacrennan, Danielle McDaid, Julie Anne Herity and Ciara Grant were outstanding.
For Aisling, Jessie O Donnell, Fiona Hayes and Nicole Cronin were towering in defence. Aisling were unlucky when with 3 minutes to go in normal time, Fiona Moloney had a penalty appeal turned down.

In extra time, the Donegal keeper made a number of excellent saves to ensure the match went to penalty shoot-out. Despite making 2 superb penalty saves, keeper Linda Tracey remained on the losing side with Aisling missing the target on 3 occasions. It was sweet revenge for Kilmacrennan who were knocked out by Aisling Annacotty at the semi-final stage of the same competition 2 years ago.
