Aisling Annacotty`s star midfielder Niamh Mulcahy is playing a pivotal role with the Republic of Ireland women`s U19 side
currently playing in the UEFA elite qualifying group phase in Germany this week. Last September this team beat Greece Israel and Iceland to qualify for this phase of the competition.

In their first match, they beat Slovakia 3-1 with goals from captain Louise Quinn, Sue Hackett and Zoe Doherty with hosts Germany beating Russia 4-0.

In their second match, they overcame 2005 European Champions Russia 1-0. The decisive goal came on 60 minuteswhen Niamh Mulcahy gathered the ball in midfield and played a perfectly weighted ball over the top of the Russian defence for Dundalk`s Gillian McDonnell to hammer home an unstoppable shot from an acute angle over the keeper.

Ireland go into their last match this week against group hosts and competition favourites Germany who also have a 100% record with the winner claiming a place in this summers European finals in Belarus. Currently Germany are regarded as the best team in Europe and whilst Ireland go in as underdogs they will not be overawed.

Speaking from Germany, Niamh said : " As the tournament has gone on, we have improved significantly. If we play to our potential, we can get a result. The pressure is on the Germans and we have nothing to lose "
